By Presidential executive order, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application for the 2017/2018 academic year was made available October 1, 2016.
Students completing the 2017/2018 “Early FAFSA” will see two major changes:
- The FAFSA became available October 1st (rather than January 1st)
- The FAFSA now uses income from two years earlier (students will report 2015 income information)
Please see the information below, specifically for graduate and professional students, regarding financial aid procedures and our expected timeline for processing:
The completion of the FAFSA will continue to be an annual requirement for federal student aid eligibility.
If eligible, students are strongly encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool option when completing the FAFSA. Choosing this option will streamline completion of federal verification requirements and expedite the financial aid application review. The steps to complete the retrieval process can be found on our IRS Data Retrieval Tool page.
Assuming students apply by Notre Dame’s priority submission date of February 28th, most will receive an electronic Financial Aid Notification (FAN) from our office in March. This FAN will list loan eligibility and scholarship/fellowship, if applicable.
Student loans cannot disburse until at least ten days before the start of classes. Students should consult their program’s start date. Participation in study abroad and summer term enrollment may affect a student’s loan disbursement dates.
