If your Financial Aid Offer includes Federal Work-Study, as opposed to Campus Employment, you are eligible to work for our Community Service agencies.
- I have Campus Employment eligibility, can I work at a community service agency?
On a case-by-case basis, pending a review of your file, our office may be able to adjust your eligibility for Federal Work-Study. Before contacting a community service agency, please contact finaid@nd.edu to request a review.
- What if my Federal Work-Study eligibility changes?
It is your responsibility to notify the agency if your Federal Work-Study eligibility changes. It will be important for you to monitor your earnings based upon your rate of pay and number of hours worked.
- How do I get a paid Community Service position?
Community Service Employment opportunities are listed on the JOBboard. Present a printout of your Financial Aid Offer to the hiring manager in order to verify your Federal Work-Study eligibility. Copies of your Financial Aid Offer can be found within insideND in the My Financial Aid task.
- Who is my employer—Notre Dame or the community service agency?
Students employed through Federal Work-Study who work for a community service agency are considered employees of the University of Notre Dame. The University issues student paychecks and W-2's.
- Can my schedule be accommodated?
Many Community Service jobs have flexible hours, while others may request students for specific times of the day. These times are outlined on each JOBboard posting.
- I currently have an on-campus job, but would like to work a few hours with a community service agency. Can I have two different jobs?
Yes, as long as your earnings at the Community Service position do not surpass the amount of Federal Work-Study offered on your Financial Aid Offer. Additionally, you must monitor your time so you do not exceed a combined 20 hours per week during the academic year.
- Do community service agencies provide transportation?
You may inquire about transportation options with the organization for which you are interested in working. Some agencies are within walking distance or are accessible by public transportation.
- How do I submit my timesheet?
To submit your timesheet:
- Log your time worked in UltraTime, which can be accessed through InsideND
- Since off-campus community service agencies do not have access to UltraTime, print a copy of your timesheet and give it to your supervisor for approval
- Your supervisor will sign the timesheet, and then email an image of the timesheet with their signature (which is the approval of the hours worked) to stdempl@nd.edu.
- Student Employment will then log into UltraTime and approve the hours worked
