The University of Notre Dame offers a limited number of merit scholarships to admitted first-year students. Recipients demonstrate exceptional accomplishment, leadership, commitment to service, and intellectual promise. Financial need is not a factor unless otherwise noted.

How it Works

Every application for admission is considered for merit scholarships at Notre Dame—there is no separate application to complete unless you are notified that you have been chosen as a merit semi-finalist.

Other Opportunities for Financial Aid

Merit-based scholarships are competitive and there are a limited number of recipients. Applicants are encouraged to apply for need-based financial aid if the costs of a Notre Dame education would pose a financial hardship.

Please note: Merit scholarships and need-based aid will be combined up to a student’s total Cost of Attendance. If a student’s total financial aid package exceeds their total Cost of Attendance, need-based aid may be adjusted in accordance with federal regulations and University policy.
